August Races
August 26th 2006.
Last weekend was a race weekend, where we ran the fast track at Sears Point. This configuration involves the full turn 10 - and in the race cars, we can get going pretty much flat out from turn 7 through 11 - coming out of 10 at 120-130mph pretty much right next to a wall. One guy in my group spun out at that turn on Saturday, but amazingly there was no contact. The other guys weren't so lucky - the next race had an incident involving 3 cars - first one spun, second one hit it, and the third car had a choice between hitting the two cars or the tire barrier. (he picked the tire barrier.) I heard one individual tallied a $13K bill for that incident. Yikes!
(I used to think the worst day racing was still better than the best day at work, but the $13K incident has made me reconsider that thought!)
I qualified 10th both Saturday and Sunday. Finished 10th on Saturday but 6th on Sunday. I was quite pleased with a 3 second improvement over qualifying time in Saturday's race, and a 1 second improvement in Sunday's race over qualifying.
Next month, I'm heading out to Thunderhill with some friends to drive our street cars on the track. Should be fun - I haven't done this since 2004! I need to find a truck to rent, as I'm planning on towing my car out there.
