Sabbatical Activities - Europe & Africa (Part 1/3 - England)
I recently took some time off work, after working for the same company for almost 10 years.
I took a week vacation to Alaska to start, and then about 2 weeks later was the "big trip" - the African Safari trip! Now since all flights to Africa from the States stop by Europe, we decided to break up the trip by spending a few days in England before, and a week in France after the 10 day African Safari. (about 3 weeks in total).
I'll skip the boring stuff about how my passport didn't get renewed in time, and how I had to fly to Vancouver to go get it, and then to the Kenyan Consulate in LA to get my visa... but that was pretty nerve wracking not having a passport a week before your departure date!
Anyway, once we landed in England, we picked up our rental car, and hightailed it out of London as fast as we could. We were heading towards Lancaster, where Sarah spent just over 2 years teaching there about 6 years ago. Sarah met up with some old colleagues for tea, before we found a very nice Bed & Breakfast. The next day, we headed up to the Lake District for lunch, before heading back to London to meet Sarah's sister, Jenny, who was going to join us for the adventure...
